Seigler tosses complete game shutout, homers in region road win
Cartersville pitcher Anthony Seigler tossed a shutout and homered Tuesday evening to lead the Hurricanes to a 2-0 Region 5AAAA win at Central-Carrollton.
Seigler scattered five hits and a walk in his complete game pitching effort. He struck out nine.
His home run came in the top of the third inning.
The Canes’ second run came in the seventh without benefit of a hit. A walk, a hit batsman, and a pair of groundouts gave Cartersville an insurance run. Noah Daniel (photo right) had the RBI.
Central-Carrollton pitchers Jarrod Swafford and Kent Evans were solid also.
Swafford (6 IP, 1ER, 4H, 2BB, 6K) was saddled with the loss. Evans (1 IP, 1R, 0H, 1BB) pitched the seventh inning.
Mason Dodson had two hits for the Lions.
Seigler was 2-for-3 including his home run. Daniel and Jake Gooch had the other Cartersville hits.
Central slipped to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in region play.
Cartersville (14-5, 4-2) plays at Sandy Creek Friday at 6:30pm in another Region 5AAAA game. The Canes then play Saturday at Central-Phenix City, AL at 1pm.
