Colonels pound Paulding, 9-3


The Cass boys soccer team defeated Paulding County Tuesday night at Doug Cochran Stadium, 9-3.


The Colonels took a 3-0 lead in the first half on a pair of goals by Anthony Robledo and a penalty kick goal by Carlos Dominguez. Robledo took a feed from Slomi Orozco with 19:51 remaining in the first half give Cass a 1-0 lead. Dominguez made the PK less than two minutes later, and Robledo’s second goal came with 5:37 remaining in the first half off a pass from Nelson Arroyo.


Robledo scored with 39:26 remaining in the second half to give Cass a 4-0 lead, but the visiting Patriots scored back-to-back goals in just over two minutes to narrow the margin to 4-2.


The Colonels responded with four straight goals.


Javier Duarte, Javier Albarran, and Jackson Laurent scored off assists from Felipe Albarran, Robledo, and Arroyo in succession to give Cass an 8-2 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the game.


Robledo scored two more goals to give him five for the game. An unassisted goal with just over 13 minutes left and another off a feed from Jorge Cabanos.


Paulding added one more score in between for the 9-3 final.


Brandon Romero had seven saves in goal for the Colonels who have now won three of their last four region games and have only one region game remaining.


Cass (3-9 overall, 3-4 Region 7AAAAA) remains alive for a region playoff spot although they will need some help. The Colonels need a win Thursday at Kell plus a win by Rome over Kell and a Woodland win over Villa Rica to reach the region playoffs.




PAULDING CO. GIRLS 5, CASS 2


The Cass girls soccer team lost to Paulding County Tuesday night, 5-2.


The Lady Patriots took a 3-1 lead in the first half and outscored the Lady Colonels 2-1 in the second half to remain unbeaten in Region 7AAAAA games.


Stephanie Robledo scored both Cass goals. Briana Ochoa assisted on one goal for the Lady Colonels and the other was scored on a Robledo penalty kick.


The Lady Patriots improved to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in Region 7AAAAA.


Cass (5-7, 3-4) plays at Kell Thursday.
