Canes drop second straight region game
Troup County pitcher Colby Williams tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout at Richard Bell Field Friday evening to blank the Cartersville Hurricanes, 1-0.
The visiting Tigers scored the game’s only run in the top of the fifth on a hit batsman and back-to-back singles. Kenly Bridwell had the Troup County RBI hit to score Cam Russell.
A trio of Cartersville pitchers — Levi Ayers, Anthony Seigler, and J.P. Martin — almost matched Williams’ performance. The three Canes combined to allow only five hits, three RBIs, and fanned eight.
Seigler had a pair of doubles for Cartersville. Brant Smith had the other Canes’ base hit.
The Tigers improved to 12-8 overall and 3-2 in Region 5AAAA.
Cartersville (13-5, 3-2) plays at Central-Carrollton Tuesday at 4:45pm and at Sandy Creek next Friday at 5:30pm.
