Chargers blow out East Georgia State to open conference play
Georgia Highlands College pitchers Jake Lovvorn and Sam Sowerbrower combined to blank visiting East Georgia State Tuesday at LakePoint while the Chargers’ offense exploded for 17 runs on 12 hits that included a pair of home runs from Brandon Bell and Grant Bodison.
With the 17-0 win, GHC (21-9 overall) opens conference play 1-0. The two teams will complete their four game series Friday and Saturday with a single game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday. All three games remaining in the series will be at East Georgia State in Swainsboro.
Matt Vaccaro had three hits and three RBIs. Bodison drove in five runs with a pair of hits, including his home run.
Caleb McElwaney and Devin Bilardello had two hits and two RBIs each. John White, Bell (HR, 3 RBI), and Israel Zackery had one hit each.
Lovvorn (5 IP, 0R, 5H, 2BB, 2K) was the winning pitcher. Sowerbrower (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) took the mound in the sixth inning.
