GHC softball sweeps non-conference doubleheader
The Georgia Highlands College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at Thomas University JV in Thomasville winning 9-3 and 13-0.
Brianna Fickes, Mackenzy McFarland, and Shayla Smith (photo) hit home runs in the first game win.
McFarland also added a three RBI double in the second game that was only a few feet short of a grand slam.
Andria Booth had five hits in the doubleheader and reached base seven times in nine plate appearances. Booth, Lauren Womack, Carlee Thurmond, and Evan Hall each had a stolen base in the two games.
Rebecca Meade earned the pitching victory in the first game. She went seven innings, and allowed only three unearned runs on five hits and two walks. Meade fanned five.
Micayla McCoy was the second game pitching winner. She tossed a five-inning, complete game shutout and yielded only two hits and two walks. She had one strikeout.
The Chargers (27-8) return to GCAA conference play Saturday at Gordon State with a doubleheader scheduled for 3pm.
