Chargers take series opener with Three Rivers


The visiting Three Rivers College Raiders held an early 3-0 lead over Georgia Highlands Friday at LakePoint in Emerson, but the Chargers’ bats got the wakeup call and scored a dozen runs over their next five frames for a 12-3 non-conference win.


The bottom portion of the Chargers’ lineup did much of the damage.


Caleb McElwaney had three hits including a double a three RBIs to lead the way. Nick Piccapietra had two hits and two RBIs. Grant Bodison finished with two hits and one RBI and Nick Fink drove in a run with two hits that included a double. Those four players were hitting sixth through ninth in the batting order.


Bronco O’Brien (RBI), John White (RBI), and Matt Vaccaro had the remaining Georgia Highlands College hits.


Colby Taylor (6.2 IP, 3R, 1ER, 9H, 1BB, 4K) picked up the pitching win. Sean Fitzpatrick (2.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB) recorded the final seven outs.


Three Rivers (4-13) and Georgia Highlands wrap up their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at LakePoint at noon.


GHC (18-9) begins Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association conference play Tuesday at LakePoint against East Georgia CC at 5:30pm.
