Soccer roundup: Cass teams earn road sweep at Hiram, Canes top Chapel Hill
The Cass girls and boys soccer teams both picked up Region 7AAAAA wins Friday night at Hiram, while the Cartersville boys earned a shutout win over Chapel Hill for a region victory.
CASS GIRLS 5, HIRAM 1
The Cass girls soccer team defeated Hiram Friday night, 5-1, in Region 7AAAAA action played at Hiram High School.
The Lady Colonels scored all five goals in the first half and led 5-0 at the intermission.
Logan Vermaas scored two goals and had an assist on a goal by Lupita Pineda. Stephanie Robledo scored a goal with an assist from Kelsey Rivera and Rivera added a score of her own on a penalty kick. Jocelyn Pineda and Morgan Delarm had the assists on the goals scored by Vermaas.
Cass put 11 shots on goal in the first half and had seven more in the second half.

The Lady Hornets fell to 1-8 on the season and 1-4 in region play.
Cass has now won three in a row to even their season mark at 5-5. The Lady Colonels are now 3-2 in Region 7AAAAA and host Villa Rica next Friday.
CASS BOYS 11, HIRAM 2
The Cass boys soccer team routed Hiram Friday night on the Hornets’ home turf, 11-2.
Anthony Robledo scored four goals, including three in the first half, and added five assists to lead the Colonels’ rout.
Jorge Cabanos scored a pair of first half goals on penalty kicks for Cass and gave the Colonels a 3-0 lead. The two penalty kick goals were about 12 minutes apart, early in the opening half.
Carlos Perez scored a pair of Cass goals, one in each half. Slomi Orozco found the net and contributed two assists. Brayan Rodriguez and David Spires scored the other Cass goals in the second half.
Nelson Arroyo had a pair of assists for the Colonels offense.
Cass led 6-1 at halftime.
Colonels’ keeper, Brandon Romero, had five saves in goal.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 2, CHAPEL HILL 0
The Cartersville boys soccer team shutout Chapel Hill Friday night 2-0 in a road Region 5AAAA match for the Hurricanes.
James Chege scored in the 45th minute and Barrett Hester found the back of the net in the 65th minute for the Canes’ two goals. Pedro Ghanem assisted on both goals.
Chapel Hill is now 2-6-1 overall and 0-4 in region play.
Cartersville (7-1-1, 3-0 Region 5AAAA) hosts Sandy Creek Tuesday and Cedartown next Friday.
CHAPEL HILL GIRLS 6, CARTERSVILLE 2
The Cartersville Lady Canes lost Friday night at Chapel Hill, 6-2.
Chapel Hill remained undefeated on the season and is now 10-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 5AAAA.
Cartersville (5-4, 1-2) hosts Sandy Creek Tuesday at 6pm and Cedartown next Friday at 5:30pm.
SONORAVILLE GIRLS 5, ADAIRSVILLE 1
The host Lady Phoenix improved to 10-1 on the year with a 5-1 Region 6AAA win Friday night over the Adairsville Lady Tigers.
Adairsville (6-2, 3-2) will host North Murray Tuesday at 5:30pm and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Thursday at 5:30pm.
SONORAVILLE BOYS 11, ADAIRSVILLE 2
The Adairsville boys soccer team lost at Sonoraville Friday night in a Region 6AAA matchup.
Sonoraville improved to 7-4-1 with an 11-2 victory.
The Tigers (1-5, 1-3) host North Murray Tuesday at 7:15pm.
