Georgia Highlands’ win streak hits 11
The Georgia Highlands College baseball team’s win streak reached eleven Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of USC-Lancaster at Lakepoint in Emerson.
Drew Wilson tossed a near complete game seven-hitter in the first game as the Chargers won 3-1. Then the Chargers’ bats took over in game two with a 14-4 five inning, mercy-rule win in the second game.
Georgia Highlands scored their three runs in the first two innings of the opener. Matt Vaccro had a two-run single in the first inning and John White drove in a run with a hit in the second.
The Lancers got a pair of walks and a single in the seventh for their only run.
Wilson (6.2 IP, 1ER, 7H, 4BB, 7K) kept USC-Lancaster under control to earn the pitching win. Britt Buckelew entered to retire the final out and earn a save.
In the second game, the Chargers scored six runs in the first inning, then added on each frame with one in the second, four in the third, and three more runs in the fourth inning for a 14-4 final.
Matthew Norton (4.2 IP, 4ER, 3H, 4BB, 5K) collected the pitching victory for Georgia Highlands.
Devin Bilardello was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Five other Chargers: Nick Fink, Nick Piccapietra (RBI), Vaccro (3 RBI), White (2 RBI), and Bronco O’Brien (RBI) had hits.
Georgia Highlands improved to 17-8 on the season and face Triton CC (River Grove, Illinois) Sunday at noon at LakePoint.
The Chargers have five more games next week beginning Thursday with a doubleheader against Shorter JV at 4pm. They will then play a three-game series with Three Rivers CC (Norwich, Connecticut) Friday and Saturday at LakePoint.
