GHC sweeps DH to win 8th straight


Nick Fink’s extra base hit in the bottom of the tenth inning lifted Georgia Highlands College to an extra innings 5-4 win over Vincennes University (Ind.) Wednesday afternoon at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson.


The game was tied 4-4 going to extra innings.


Vincennes took an early lead on a solo homers by Jonathan Blackwell and Chance Bodine, but the Chargers scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning.


Bronco O’Brien singled, Vincennes committed an outfield error, and Brandon Bell hit a two-run homer to account for the Georgia Highlands runs.


Back to back singles by the Blazers in front of a Chargers’ infield error tied the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh and then both teams scored a run in the eighth.


Three straight singles gave Vincennes a 4-3 lead in the top of the frame. John White had an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.


The Blazers collected 13 hits in the game. Bodine, Blackwell, Slater Rush, and Nathan Forrest each produced multiple hits for Vincennes.


Bradley Hood earned the pitching win for the Chargers working only a shutout tenth inning with one strikeout. Jake Lovvorn (4.2 IP, 2ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) started on the mound for the Chargers. Britt Buckelew, Ryan Bramlett, and David Hussey pitched in middle relief.


O’Brien had two hits for Georgia Highlands. Bell hit the two-run homer. John White (RBI), Fink (RBI), Nick Piccapietra, and Isreal Zackery had the other Chargers’ hits.



GEORGIA HIGHLANDS 12, VINCENNES 1


The Chargers also won the second game of a doubleheader with Vincennes 12-1 Wednesday.


Bronco O’Brien had a walk-off, inside-the-park grand slam to give Georgia Highlands the margin for a mercy-rule win.


Georgia Highlands improved to 14-8 with the two wins and the Chargers have now won eight straight games.


Next for Georgia Highlands is Indian Hills CC (Iowa) Friday at 3pm at LakePoint.
