Woodland opens season with win over Adairsville

The Woodland baseball team posted 10 runs over their final two frames to close out the visiting Adairsville Tigers Monday night 11-1 in five innings in both teams’ season opener.

The Wildcats scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to break open a 1-1 game and then added five more in the fifth for the run-rule victory.

Cauy Williams drove in three runs on a pair of hits and a walk to lead the Woodland offense. Chris Mills drove in a run with two hits and Hunter Reaid had three RBIs in a 1-for-3 performance.

Trenton Harrison, who pitched a complete game for the win, plated two runs with a double. Garrett Cornett, Emmanuel Jones, and Jordan Lee had the other Woodland hits.

Harrison pitched his way around five Wildcats’ errors. He scattered five hits and allowed only one earned run with five strikeouts.

Adairsville used four different pitchers with Chase Powell (2 IP, 2H, 1ER, 3BB, 2K) taking the loss. Taylor Whitley, Caden Gibbs, and Sam Seaman also saw time on the mound for the Tigers.

Kyler Pelfrey drove in Adairsville’s only run with a single in the third inning to drive home Whitley and tie the game 1-1.

Whitley, Seaman, Gibbs, and Noah Dutton each added one hit for the Tigers.

Woodland (1-0) will play at Armuchee Tuesday, before traveling to Adairsville for an 11am start on Saturday. The Tigers will then host Cass at 2pm.
