McCoy's no-hitter highlights Chargers sweep
The Georgia Highlands College softball team swept a pair of games Saturday at Hamilton Crossing Park to complete the 2017 GHC Border Battle with a 4-0 record.
The Chargers defeated Cleveland State (TN) 5-0 in their first game Saturday and then routed 10th-ranked Shelton State (TN) 13-0 in five innings in the second game of day.
Micayla McCoy (photo) made history in the win over Shelton State by tossing the first-ever no-hitter for the Georgia Highlands program. She struck out eight.
Rebecca Meade won the first game in the circle by throwing a one-hitter over seven frames with seven strikeouts.
Hannah Wills led the Chargers at the plate Saturday by going 5-for-6 with a sacrifice.
Madison Gianfala was 4-for-5 and Shay Wooten finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of walks.
The Chargers have a week to rest up before heading to Faulkner’s Gulf Shores Tournament next Saturday and Sunday. GHC will also pick up a pair of games Sunday at Enterprise State (AL) to recover cancelled games from earlier this season.
