Georgia Highlands opens '17 with win
The Georgia Highlands baseball team opened the 2017 season Friday afternoon in style with a 12-0 shutout of visiting Chattanooga State CC at LakePoint in Emerson.
Chargers’ new head coach, Dash O’Neill (photo left), picked up his first victory as the GHC skipper.
Georgia Highlands posted nine runs in the first three innings and cruised to a seven inning win.
Colby Taylor needed only 67 pitches to scatter three hits and a pair of walks to earn the pitching victory. He struck out one.
Matthew Norton pitched the seventh inning for Georgia Highlands and struck out one.
Isreal Zackery had three hits and scored three runs with one RBI at the plate for the Chargers. Brandon Bell hit a grand slam and drove in another run with a single. Grant Bodison also homered with two RBI and scored three runs.
The Chargers also took advantage of five Chattanooga State errors.
The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday with first pitch set for 2pm.
