Athletes Beyond Bartow | Rosario ranked 5th nationally; updates for collegiate tennis, track and fie

Former Cass High School standout Sammy Rosario is now the NAIA's 5th-ranked wrestler in the 133-pound division. The senior recently pinned his opponent in a win for his 18th-ranked Cumberland University team.
The Phoenix are the 3rd-ranked team in the NAIA East Region and Rosario is the top-ranked individual for his weight class in the East Region.

TENNIS

PEYTON GOLLHOFER — Ball State University (Soph., Cartersville resident, Laurel Springs Academy). . . playing at the No. 1 singles line, Gollhofer defeated her Dayton University opponent 6-3, 7-6 Sunday as the Lady Cardinals topped the Flyers 6-1. She also teamed with Audrey Berger to win 6-2 on the No. 3 doubles line.
TRACK AND FIELD

MILES BEARDEN — Kansas State University (Sr., Cartersville resident, Darlington HS). . . finished second in the high jump at 2.05m at the University of New Mexico Invitational Saturday, January 28 at the Albuquerque, NM Convention Center. Bearden was one of three at the hight, but placed second on jumps. New Mexico won the meet by two points over Utah State and five points ahead of Texas Christian. Kansas State was sixth. The Wildcats will compete in the Sevigne Husker Invitational February 3 and 4 in Lincoln, NE.

ANNA HIGHTOWER — Georgia Tech (Soph., Cartersville HS). . . (photo right) placed 11th in the pole vault at a height of 11 feet, 11.75 inches at the Bob Pollock Invitational last weekend at the Clemson University Indoor Complex. The Yellow Jackets will compete in the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame February 3-4 in South Bend, IN.
BREE COLE -- Jacksonville State University (Fresh., Cartersville HS). . . ran 16th in the 4000M at a dual meet with UNC-Greensbor in Winston-Salem, NC this past weekend. The Gamecocks will compete next at the Samford Invitational on February 11.
SAMANTHA PATTERSON -- Jacksonville State (Jr., Woodland) — Patterson cleared 3.30 meters at the UNC-Greensboro meet, tying for first place with her teammate Laura Sewell and Davidson’s Stephanie Hautamaa. Jax State competes next at the Samford Invitational on February 11. BLAKE PERRY -- Jacksonville State University (Jr., Cartersville HS). . . finished 9th in the 60M hurdles at the UNCG Dual in Winston-Salem, NC this past weekend. The Gamecocks will compete next at the Samford Invitational on February 11.
WRESTLING

EVAN COLE — Cumberland University (Jr., Cartersville HS). . . (photo right) defeated his opponent in the 149-pound division, 12-0 as the Phoenix defeated Truett-McConnell 34-9. Cumberland (11-3) travels to Marietta, GA to wrestle Brewton-Parker and Life University Tuesday and will be back on the mats Friday at Campbellsville University (KY).

SWIMMING
ELISE HART -- Air Force (Jr., Cartersville) — Hart won the 50-yard butterfly Saturday as Air Force lost a dual meet to Denver. Her finals time of 24.63 beat out Denver’s Heidi Bradley, who swam 25 seconds flat. Hart also competed in the 50 free and the 200-yard freestyle and medley relays. The Falcons will compete in the Mountain West Conference Championship Febuary 15-18 at College Station, TX.
