Athletes Beyond Bartow | Mosby helps lead Alcorn State to a pair of SWAC wins; Holloway, Rodgers con
Former Cartersville High School standout A.J. Mosby posted 23 points and seven rebounds this past week in a pair of SWAC basketball wins for Alcorn State University to highlight this week's Athletes Beyond Bartow basketball update. Former Woodland star Emmanuel Holloway and part-time Cartersville resident Adrian Rodgers also continue to toil away overseas in their respective European basketball leagues.

BASKETBALL
SYDNEY BOYD — Brewton-Parker College (Soph., G, Woodland HS). . . scored four points with one rebound and a steal in a 78-55 loss at University of Mobile Saturday. She also scored two points and had one rebound in a 70-45 loss last Thursday at Loyola-New Orleans. Brewton-Parker (8-8 overall, 5-7 in the Southern States Athletic Conference) hosts SSAC opponents Martin Methodist (TN) Thursday and Bethel University (TN) on Saturday.
EMMANUEL HOLLOWAY — UU-Korihait, Finnish Pro League (G, Illinois State, Woodland HS). . . (photo right) scored 17 points with four rebounds and four assists in an 86-75 loss to Lapua January 25 and scored four points with five rebounds and one assist in a lost January 28 to BC Nokia. Korihait (4-19) is in last place in the Korisliiga and has lost 11 straight. They play Kauhajoki Wednesday.
A.J. MOSBY — Alcorn State University (Junior, G, Cartersville HS). . . (photo top) scored 11 points with three rebounds and a steal in an 81-70 road victory over Alabama A&M January 23. He then added 12 points with four rebounds, four assists, and a steal in a 74-64 home win over Southern University. The two Southwestern Athletic Conference wins improves the Braves to 9-11 overall and 6-3 in conference. ASU hosts SWAC opponent Jackson State on Saturday and Grambling State next Monday, February 6.
ADRIAN RODGERS — Malbas Oresund, Swedish Pro League (G, Cartersville resident, Centennial HS, Southern University). . . scored nine points with five rebounds, six assists, one steal and one blocked shot in a 95-77 lost at UMEA January 24. He followed with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals in a 90-61 home loss to Sodertalje January 27. Malbas Oresund (1-18) plays at Norrkoping Friday.
COREY TOBIN — Reinhardt University (Jr., G, Cartersville HS). . . scored nine points with three rebounds, two blocked shots, two assists, and a steal in a home 120-106 win over Tennessee Wesleyan University January 25. The Eagles also won at Allen University (SC) Saturday, 93-83. Stats for that game were not immediately available. Reinhardt (17-5, 11-4 Appalachian Athletic Conference) received votes in the most recent NAIA national poll and is in second place in the conference. The Eagles play at St. Andrews (NC) Wednesday and host Montreat College (NC) Saturday.
HAKEEM WINTERS — Point University (Soph., F, Cartersville HS). . . scored four points and grabbed two rebounds in an 88-71 loss Saturday at St. Andrews University (NC) as the Skyhawks fell to 2-21 on the season and 1-13 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Point hosts conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan Wednesday and plays at Allen University (SC) on Saturday.
