Lady Canes, Canes complete season sweep of Paulding County
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 62, PAULDING COUNTY 37
The Cartersville girls basketball team utilized a 22-point second quarter to separate themselves from the visiting Lady Patriots of Paulding County Wednesday night at the Storm Center on their way to a 62-37 victory.
Cartersville led 12-7 after one quarter, but extended their lead to 34-14 at halftime with the big second quarter.
The Lady Canes led 46-25 after three periods.
The trio of DeAsia Jefferson, Madison McKinney, and India Reid led Cartersville with 10 points each. Reid added nine rebounds and Jefferson collected five boards.
Monica Motuba contributed nine points to the Cartersville offense. Camilla Rodriguez followed with eight points and six rebounds. Addie Smith finished with six points; Caroline Bagwell four; Chloe Davis three; and London Shaw two for the Lady Canes.
Kasie Brewer led Paulding with 22 points. She was followed by teammates Kimberlynn Black and Kemoni Watson with 11 and four points, respectively.
The Lady Patriots fell to 2-11 with the loss. Cartersville improved to 4-3.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 69, PAULDING CO. 52
T.J. Horton scored 24 points and Jaylon Pugh added 23 as the Purple Hurricanes completed a season sweep of Paulding County Wednesday night at the Storm Center.
Horton added seven rebounds and three assists. Pugh had three steals. Perignon Dyer scored nine points for Cartersville.
Cartersville led 32-20 at halftime and 50-39 after three quarters.
With the loss, Paulding County slips to 2-10 on the year.
Cartersville (5-1) hosts Woodland Thursday with the girls’ game scheduled to tip at 6pm and the boys’ game to follow. The game will be celebrated as Alumni Night for the Purple Hurricanes.
Both the Lady Canes and Canes will face Cass December 28 in the opening round of the Chattooga Christmas Tournament in Summerville. Those games are scheduled back-to-back with the girls’ game set to tip at 4pm.
