Six local baseball players make mark at Perfect Game Jupiter event
Three players from both Cartersville High School and Cass High School competed recently in Perfect Game’s World Wood Bat Association Championship in Jupiter, Florida.
Cass players, Jake Collum, Cody Johnson, and Bailey Campbell competed with Nelson Baseball School 18U.
Cartersville players, J.P. Martin and Mason Barnett, played with Georgia PG Texas Orange. Devin Warner played third base for the East Cobb Yankees.
Each of the teams faired well at one of Perfect Game’s premier events.
Georgia PG Texas Orange went 4-1 and made the playoff round of 32. The East Cobb Yankees finished 2-1-1 and Nelson Baseball School finished 2-2.
Individual results:
Mason Barnett (Cartersville HS) — pitched four innings in a pair of relief appearances; allowed three runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Bailey Campbell (Cass HS, Young Harris commit) — collected a double and a triple in 12 at bats with two RBIs and a run scored with a walk.
Jake Collum (Cass HS, Georgia State commit) — threw three shutout innings in two appearances, allowing no hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Named to all-tournament team.
Cody Johnson (Cass HS) — pitched three innings in a start, earning a win after allowing one run on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Names to all-tournament team.
J.P. Martin (Cartersville HS) — finished 1-for-5 with a walk, a hit by pitch, an RBI and two runs scored. He started three games at catcher including his team’s playoff game.
Devin Warner (Cartersville HS, Auburn commit) — collected a double, scored two runs and drew three walks in nine at bats. He also turned two double plays and posted a .933 fielding percentage.
