Lady Canes topped by Northside-Columbus in second round

The Cartersville Lady Canes volleyball team fell in their Class AAAA second round playoff match Tuesday evening at Northside-Columbus in straight sets.

Northside took two closely decided sets 25-23 and 25-22, before closing out the Lady Canes in the third set of the best-of-five, 25-15.

Lauren Wenzell, Rebekah Stevens and Heilman all tied for the Cartersville team lead with five kills each. Elsa Evans had three blocks, while Heilman and Grace Hunter each totaled three aces. Hunter led the team with 10 assists.

The Lady Canes' lone senior, Kameron Hendrix, contributed six assists, five digs and two aces.

Northside-Columbus advances to the third round of the state playoffs where the bracket will be re-seeded.

The Lady Canes, who won the Area 5-AAAA championship, had their season end with a 28-17 mark.
