Woodland, Cartersville, Excel Christian open state fast pitch softball playoffs Wednesday
The GHSA state fast pitch softball playoffs get underway Wednesday with two local teams on the road.
The Cartersville Lady Canes, in Class AAAA, travel to Gainesville to take on Chestatee. The Woodland Lady Cats, in Class AAAAA, will be in Lithonia to play Miller Grove. Meanwhile, the Excel Christian Academy Lady Eagles will travel to Rome to play Darlington. Each matchup is a doubleheader on Wednesday to open a best-of-three series.

The Cartersville fast pitch softball team opens the 2016 Class AAAA state playoffs on the road Wednesday at Chestatee.
The Lady Canes (18-11) are the No. 3 seed from Region 5-AAAA. Chestatee (20-8) is the No. 2 seed out of Region 7-AAAA.

The Lady Cats (13-19) are the No. 3 seed from Region 7-AAAAA. Miller Grove is the No. 2 seed from Region 5-AAAAA.

EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY at DARLINGTON
The Excel Christian Academy Lady Eagles are the No. 20 seed in the Class A Private state playoffs. They play at Darlington who is seeded No. 13.
The Lady Eagles (10-13) defeated Darlington twice during the regular season with an 8-2 win in early September and a 6-1 victory September 29. Darlington (10-18) will host all games in the series that begins with a doubleheader Wednesday. If a third game in the best-of-three series is needed, it will be played on Thursday. The series winner advances to the second round to face No. 4 seed, Tattnall Square Academy, in Macon October 18-19. The Lady Trojans received a first round bye and are 20-7 on the year.
