Updated local high school football region standings and schedules

For most teams, high school football in Georgia has reached the mid-point of the 2016 season. Region 7-AAAAA moves into its fourth week of region games. Region 5-AAAA enters its second week of region match-ups, and Region 6-AAA begins sub-region games this week.

In Region 7-AAAAA, Kell is as high as No. 2 in the MaxPreps rankings and is third in the most recent composite of six different polls published in Georgia. Carrollton is ranked third in four polls and no lower than sixth in any of the statewide polls, and Rome is ranked somewhere between sixth and tenth in the various polls. In Region 5-AAAA, Cartersville is the unanimous No. 1 team in all statewide polls. Sandy Creek is the second-ranked team in the Maxwell Power Ratings in Class AAAA and is either No. 3 or No. 4 in all the other polls. In Region 6-AAA, Calhoun is currently third in the Maxwell Ratings in Class AAA, but ranked sixth in four of the other five polls. The Jackets are ranked eighth in the current Georgia Public Broadcasting poll.
