Lady Canes take on challenge of Rally High volleyball event

Cartersville High School’s volleyball team participated this past weekend with 35 varsity teams and 27 junior varsity teams in the Rally Volleyball — Rally High Invitational Tournament at the LakePoint Champions Center in Emerson.


The tournament featured round robin pool play followed by single-elimination playoffs.


While the Lady Canes suffered some losses at the event, the experienced gained in playing some of the top high school programs in the state was beneficial as they continue to battle for a state playoff spot in Area 5-AAAA.

Blessed Trinity captured the Varsity Gold Division at LakePoint with a 25-23, 25-20 straight sets victory over Harrison. On their way to the title, the Lady Titans also had elimination bracket wins over North Oconee, Dunwoody, and Etowah.


Northgate from Newnan won the Silver Division, taking a three set victory in the finals over Kennesaw Mountain, 15-25, 25-20, and 15-13.


Dunwoody took the Junior Varsity Division title.

Standout players for the Canes include: Catie Heilman with 6 kills and 2 digs; Rebekah Stevens with 5 kills; Anna Mathis with 4 digs and 2 assists; and Kameron Hendrix with 16 assists.


lost to Hillgrove 25-18, 25-21

Standout players for the Canes include: Catie Heilman with 6 kills, 2 digs, and 1 ace; Kameron Hendrix with 10 assists; and Anna Mathis with 6 digs.


Cartersville (18-13, 3-1 in area 5-AAAA) has area matches at Sandy Creek Tuesday with the host Patriots and LaGrange. The Lady Canes will also play Walker and Pope on Thursday at Pope, before participating in the Bartow County Championships Saturday at Woodland.
