Canes remain No. 1 in Class AAAA; Colonels to clash with Kell for top spot in Region 7-AAAAA
Cartersville remains the No. 1 team in Class AAAA in the rankings released today by Georgia High School Football Daily. The Canes (4-0) have now held the top spot for the entire season and are a unanimous No. 1 in the other Class AAAA published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia Sports Writers Association, Georgia Public Broadcasting, Score Atlanta, the Maxwell Ratings, and MaxPreps.
Thomson (4-0) holds down the No. 2 spot, followed by Sandy Creek (3-1). The Patriots, members of Region 5-AAAA with Cartersville, will host the Purple Hurricanes October 14.
A pair of private school, perrenial powers are in the fourth and fifth slots. Blessed Trinity (4-1) is ranked fourth and Woodward Academy is fifth. Both had impressive wins last Friday. Blessed Trinity blanked Hart County 43-0 and Woodward Academy shutout Marist 32-0.
The remainder of the Class AAAA top ten includes No. 6 Mary Persons (3-2), No. 7 Burke County (4-0), No. 8 Oconee County (4-0), No. 9 Jefferson (3-1), and No. 10 Cairo (3-1).
Roswell (3-0) is the highest rated team in Class AAAAAAA and has the highest national ratings. Unbeaten Mill Creek (4-0) is the team chasing the Hornets.
Middle and south Georgia teams lead Class AAAAAA. Houston County (5-0) is No. 1, followed by second-ranked Northside-Warner Robins (5-0), third-ranked Valdosta (5-0), and fourth-ranked Lee County (4-0). Northgate (4-0) is fifth and Dalton (4-0) is ranked sixth in the classification. Cobb County’s Harrison Hoyas are also undefeated (4-0) and come in at No. 7.
In Class AAAAA, Buford (2-1) is No. 1 where three of the top ten teams are in Region 7-AAAAA with Cass and Woodland. Region 7-AAAAA’s Carrollton (3-0) is ranked third, Kell (3-1) is fourth, and Rome (1-2) is ranked ninth.
Greater Atlanta Christian (3-1) heads Class AAA followed by Pace Academy (3-1) and Cedar Grove (3-1). Nearby Calhoun (2-2) is ranked sixth in Class AAA.
In Class AA, eight undefeated teams occupy the top eight spots with Fitzgerald (3-0) securing the No. 1 position. The other seven are Benedictine (4-0), Brooks County (3-0), Jefferson County (4-0), Callaway (4-0), Rabun County (2-0), and Model (4-0).
The top ranked Class A Private team is Eagle’s Landing Christian (4-0). Darlington is 3-1 and No. 6 in the classification.
Commerce (3-0) is the top-ranked team among Class A Public schools.
