Lady Canes blow out Sandy Creek; Adairsville pounds Haralson Co.; Woodland, Cass, Excel drop region
Cartersville scored four runs or more in each of their four offensive frames Thursday night in a 23-3 trouncing of Sandy Creek in Tyrone.
Sandy Creek contributed to the offensive outburst by committing eight errors.
The Lady Canes led 8-1 after two innings and scored nine runs in the top of the third and six more in the fourth.
Colbi Ballard (4 IP, 3ER, 5H, 3BB, 4K) picked up the pitching victory.
Cio Seigler had a triple and four RBIs in her two hits. Presley Edwards also added four RBIs and had a double. Hope Short (RBI), Paris Poston (2 RBI), Lauren McElhaney (RBI), Madison McKinney (RBI), and Ballard each added base hits. Neeley Baxter contributed one RBI and Macee Cole added two RBIs.
Cartersville (10-9, 2-5 in Region 5-AAAA) hosts a region doubleheader with Troup County Saturday starting at 11:30am.
HIRAM 5, CASS 3 Cass saw leads of 2-0 and 3-2 slip away Thursday night at Hiram in a 5-3 loss.
The Lady Colonels fell despite out-hitting the Hornets eight to seven.
Hiram scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for their come-from-behind win.
Sierrah Gani, Hope Elrod, and Sarah Fox led Cass with two hits each. Gani and Elrod both had doubles and one RBI each. Taylor Queen and Brittnee Mayer had the other Cass base hits. Gani, Elrod, and Kalia Carson each stole a base.
Sarah Moore (6 IP, 5R, 4ER, 7H, 3BB, 2K) was tagged with the pitching loss.
Cass (5-13, 3-7 in Region 7-AAAAA) plays in the Score Invitational in Chattanooga Friday and Saturday where they will meet Murray County, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Dalton, and Southeast Whitfield in their first four games.
KELL 3, WOODLAND 1
Kell edged visiting Woodland Thursday night, 3-1 on single runs in the first, fourth, and sixth innings. The Lady Cats scored their run in the top of the fifth on three straight singles by Audrey Morris, Jamison Kilgo, and Bella Carnes followed by an infield error by the Lady Longhorns.
Morris finished with a pair of hits. Madgie Robinson and Jordan Duck also added hits for Woodland who out hit Kell, six to three.
Sarah Baynard (6 IP, 3R, 2ER, 3H, 5BB, 3K) suffered the pitching loss.
Woodland (7-15, 3-8 in Region 7-AAAAA) hosts Paulding County next Thursday.
TRION 3, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 0 Excel pitcher Hannah Lee allowed only two earned runs and limited Trion to five hits and a pair of walks, but the Lady Eagles were shutout on offense, 3-0. Aliza Baker had two hits including a double and Landry McCollum added a single for Excel's only hits. Excel (8-10) hosts Mt. Zion Monday before traveling to Gordon Lee Tuesday and Christian Heritage on Thursday.
ADAIRSVILLE 15, HARALSON CO. 0 Loren Harris allowed only two hits and no walks with a complete game pitching win Thursday night over Haralson County. Adairsville posted two runs in the second inning and five in the fourth for a big early lead. The Lady Tigers then added five more in the seventh inning to complete the rout. Emily Collum had four hits and three RBIs. Bailey Robinson contributed a pair of doubles while going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Natalie Burrow drove in four runs with three hits that included a triple. Adairsville is now 9-8 overall and 6-5 in region play. The Lady Tigers face Sonoraville Tuesday at home.
