Walk off tops Cass, Woodland blanked, Excel falls
Cass softball took a 7-2 lead in the top of the third inning and led 10-8 going to the bottom of the seventh, but Paulding County’s nine runs over their final five frames and a three-run seventh resulted in an 11-10 region win for the Lady Patriots.
Ashley Alexander, who had a perfect night at the plate going 2-for-2 with three walks, hit a walk-off, two-run double to give Paulding the late rally win. She finished the game with three RBIs. Josie Cook also had two hits that included a double and three RBI for the Patriots.
Macey Jauregui (2.1 IP, 7R, 5ER, 5H, 3BB, 3K) and Abbie Crawford (4.2 IP, 3R, 2ER, 2H, 3BB, 9K) split the pitching duties for Paulding County with Crawford picking up the win.
Hope Elrod had a three-hit game for Cass. She had a double and one RBI. Sarah Moore had a double and one RBI. Taylor Queen (RBI), Sarah Fox (RBI), and Sierrah Gani had the other Lady Colonels’ hits.
Arianna Mustin (3 IP, 5R, 4ER, 4H, 3BB, 2K) and Moore (3.1 IP, 6R, 4ER, 5H, 6BB, 1K) pitched for Cass.
Paulding County improved to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Cass (5-11, 3-6) entertains region opponent Hiram Thursday at 5:45pm and has weekend road invitational tournament games against LaFayette, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Dalton, and Southeast Whitfield.
VILLA RICA 7, WOODLAND 0
Woodland was shutout by visiting Villa Rica Tuesday night in a Region 7-AAAAA matchup, 7-0.
Caroline Higdon (triple), Skylar Chappell (double), and Madgie Robinson had the only Woodland hits.
Villa Rica improved to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in region play.
Woodland (7-15, 3-7) plays at Kell Thursday at 5:30pm.
BOWDON 4, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 2
The visiting Lady Red Devils posted three runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth in a come-from-behind 4-2 win at Excel Christian Academy Tuesday.
Excel took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Whitney Harris, but Bowdon pushed ahead in the fifth. The Lady Eagles added another run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Rachel Parrott, but would score no more. Lindsey Mauldin had doubled to lead off the Excel sixth.
Kalli Beth Scheff was 2-for-3 for Excel. Landry McCollum also added a base hit and stole a base.
Excel (8-9) plays at Trion Thursday at 4:30pm.
