Excel Christian blasts Model, Adairsville blanks Murray, Cass shutout by Gordon Lee
The Excel Christian Academy softball team overpowered Model Monday evening, 15-4 in five innings.
Excel put two or more runs on the board in four of their five offensive frames while compiling 15 hits. Seven of their hits were for extra bases.
Lady Eagles’ pitcher, Taylor Gibson, earned the victory in the pitching circle. She scattered six hits and a walk while allowing only two earned runs. Gibson recorded five strikeouts.
Aliza Baker (photo) and Lindsey Mauldin led the offense by combining for five hits and seven RBIs. Baker was 3-for-3 with a homerun, a double, a walk, scored four runs, and drove in four. Mauldin was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scored three runs, and drove in three.
Landry McCollum, Kami Cooper, and Whitney Harris (double, RBI) added two hits each. Hannah Lee (RBI), Brighton McCollum, Rachel Parrott (double, 2 RBI), and Gibson (double, RBI) had the other hits for the Lady Eagles. Baker, McCollum, and Riley Boston each swiped a base.
With the loss, Model remains winless on the year.
Excel (8-8) is scheduled to host Bowdon Tuesday at 4:30pm before traveling to Trion Thursday for a 4:30pm start.

Loren Harris threw a complete game shutout Monday as the Lady Tigers won a region game at Murray County, 12-0.
Harris struck out eleven and allowed only two hits in the win.
Emily Collum was 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and scored twice. Natalie Burrow went 3-for-4 with four RBIs with a triple and two runs scored. Bailey Robinson followed with a 3-for-5 performance that included a pair of doubles and added two RBIs.
Morgan DeBoard, Breanna Wilson, and Macy Hufstetler (double) had two hits each. Havyn Isaac (double, sacrifice, RBI) added the other Adairsville base hit.
Murray County falls to 3-10 overall and 0-8 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville (7-7, 4-4 in region games) travels to Haralson County Thursday for a 5pm start.
GORDON LEE 9, CASS 0
Gordon Lee blew a tight game with Cass wide open with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth Monday afternoon at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. With that flurry, the Lady Trojans turned a 1-0 lead into a run-rule shortened 9-0 victory in five innings.
The Lady Colonels struggled at the plate, managing only one hit by Sarah Moore.
Moore also suffered the pitching loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits and four walks.
Gordon Lee improved to 12-1 on the year with their shutout victory.
Cass (5-11) will host Region 7-AAAAA opponents Paulding County Tuesday at 5:55pm and Hiram Thursday at 5:45pm. They will also travel to LaFayette for a non-region matchup with the Lady Ramblers Friday night at 7:30pm.
