Cass renews rivalry at Woodland Friday
Cass will travel to Woodland Friday night and the Colonels and Wildcats will meet for the 13th time all-time at Wildcats’ Stadium.
The two Bartow County schools are in Region 7-AAAAA, so the battle will double as the region opener for both teams.
Woodland (0-2) will be looking for their first win and this will be their home opener. The Wildcats lost their season opener at River Ridge, 36-8, and fell last week at Rockmart, 37-12.
Cass (1-1) started the regular season with a resounding 34-0 shutout of Adairsville on the road, but lost at home last week to Sonoraville, 28-25.
Woodland has been a run-oriented wing-T offense in the early season. The Wildcats will look for quality performances from Justice Carter and Brycen Kellet out of their backfield and will look to quarterback Brody Williams to make good decisions, reads, and handle the football securely.
Defensively, Emmanuel Jones had a huge game at Rockmart collecting 17 tackles against the Yellow Jackets. He also returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown.
The Colonels’ offense will counter with senior quarterback Brett Gaddy who distributes the ball to playmakers Laizon West, Terry Berdin, and fullback Derrick Maxwell.
Tripp Breeden, a junior linebacker, has been a big playmaker for the Cass defense. He had nine tackles against Sonoraville and was the Colonels’ most active tackler at Adairsville.
Kickoff for Friday’s game is set for 7:30pm.
