Cass, Woodland softball teams drop region games

Kell scored the game’s only run in the top of the sixth inning on a leadoff triple and a two-out single on their way to a 1-0 Region 7-AAAAA win Wednesday night at Cass.

The Lady Colonels managed only one hit in the game. It was a two-out double by Sierrah Gani in the bottom of the third.

Cass pitcher, Arianna Mustin, scattered four hits and five walks but suffered the pitching loss. She struck out three.

Cass (4-10) entertains Woodland Thursday at 5pm.

CARROLLTON 7, WOODLAND 1

Woodland lost a region game at home Wednesday night to visiting Carrollton, 7-1.

The Lady Trojans broke open a scoreless game in the top of the fifth with five runs, then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-0 lead. Woodland posted their run in the bottom of the seventh.

Madgie Robinson had two hits for Woodland. Brittney Cox singled in the final frame and later scored the Lady Cats’ run. Bella Carnes, Caroline Higdon, and Jamison Kilgo had the other Woodland hits.

Sarah Baynard (7 IP, 7R, 4ER, 6H, 4BB, 4K) was the pitcher of record for the Lady Wildcats.

Woodland (7-9) plays at Cass Thursday at 5pm.
