Woodland girls dominate Run at the Rock
Led by a pair of freshman runners, the Woodland girls cross country team won the Woodland Run at the Rock Saturday by 30 points over North Paulding.
The Lady Cats finished with only 18 points and had five of the top seven in the race. North Paulding was second with 48 points, followed by Campbell (101), Hiram (156), and Rome (172). Kennesaw Mountain, North Cobb, River Ridge, Carrollton, and Sprayberry rounded out the top ten of fifteen scoring teams.
Freshmen, Angela Cochran (19:38.55) and Carli Clymer (19:48.03) finished first and second to lead the field. Sophomore Cheyenne Spinks was fifth overall in 20:44. Frosh Mekenna Trapheagen (20:56) and junior Lindsay Scifers (20:58) rounded out the Woodland scoring runners.
Abigail Campos (23:59) and Casey Bolan (24:25) rounded out the Woodland runners.
Cass did not field a full team. Stephane Robledo (25:48) and Alex Stodghill (32:23) ran for the Lady Colonels.
North Paulding won the boys’ race by seven points over Hiram. Carrollton placed third. Campbell was fourth and Woodland fifth. North Cobb, Kennesaw Mountain, Rome, Kell, and South Paulding finished in the top ten.
Jonathan Holloway led Woodland with a time of 17:59. He was 14th overall. Jacob Giltz (24th, 18:32), Dawson McClure (38th, 19:10), Dylan Stermer (43rd, 19:17) and Noah Warren (45th 19:28) were the Wildcats’ scoring runners. Levi Brandenburg (55th, 19:43) and Stanton Bedwell (20:52) also competed for Woodland.
Cass had four runners in the boys’ race. Jacob Shaver (20:55), Ryan Dupree (21:33), Nick Poteat (21:34), and Michael Shaver competed for the Colonels.
Woodland and Cass will run next Saturday (Sept. 10) in the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational on the GHSA state championship course in Carrollton.
