Cartersville volleyball tops Rome, Sonoraville
The Lady Canes’ volleyball team earned a pair of wins Thursday evening in Calhoun with a quick, straight set win over Rome followed by a three-set, nail biting victory over the host Lady Phoenix of Sonoraville.
Cartersville defeated Rome 25-18 and 25-13 in the opener.
Rebekah Stevens had five kills, one assist, and one dig for Cartersville. Lauren Wenzell contributed six kills, two digs, and a pair of aces. Catie Heilman finished with four kills, three digs, and five aces. Jayla Delgado added eight service receptions, two digs, and three aces, while Kameron Hendrix totaled a pair of kills, 13 assists, and six digs.
In the nightcap, the Lady Canes outlasted Sonoraville 24-26, 26-24, 25-15.
Addie Smith had eight service receptions and four digs in the Cartersville win. Delgado also had eight service receptions with six digs and six kills. Anna Mathis chipped in with an assist, ten service receptions, and 11 digs. Hendrix totaled 29 assists, one kill, and two digs. Grace Hunter compiled two aces, three blocks, and five kills. Wenzell added three aces, six kills, and four digs. Heilman totaled nine kills, four digs, and a pair of aces.
Cartersville (8-6) opens region play Tuesday at Cedartown where they will play Central Carrollton and the host Lady Bulldogs with matches starting at 6pm.
