Cass, Adairsville volleyball split tri-matches; Woodland softball edged at Paulding County


The volleyball teams at Adairsville and Cass both split tri-matches Tuesday at home. Adairsville lost in straight sets to Bremen, 25-15 and 25-16, but beat Calhoun in three sets, 25-22, 15-25, and 25-17.


Cass fell to visiting Fannin County, 25-22 and 25-17, but bounced back to defeat Model, 25-20 and 25-18.


Adairsville will host Cass and Armuchee Thursday at 5pm.




SOFTBALL

Paulding County edges Woodland

Woodland and Paulding County exchanged the lead several times Tuesday night in a Region 7-AAAAA softball battle in Dallas, but it was the Lady Patriots coming away with a walk off victory, 5-4.


Ashley Alexander drove in Kayla Tucker for the final go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning for Paulding County.


Woodland took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Bella Carnes walked, stole second, and later scored on an infield error.


Paulding's Makayla Powell tied the score in the bottom of the second with a home run.


Caroline Higdon drove in a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to give the Lady Cats a 3-1 lead, but the Lady Pats tied it in the fourth on a walk, an infield error, and back-to-back RBI singles by Josie Cook and Megan Ennesser.


Abbie Crawford homered for Paulding in the fifth inning for a 4-3 advantage, but Woodland tied the game once again on a double by Skylar Chappell and an RBI single by Madgie Robinson.


Chappell was the only Woodland player with two hits. Robinson, Carnes, Higdon, Jordan Duck, Brittney Cox, and Jamison Kilgo had the other hits for the Lady Cats.


Sarah Baynard (6.2 IP, 5R, 4ER, 9H, 1BB, 2K) was tagged with the pitching loss. Powell went the full seven innings for the pitching victory for Paulding County.


Paulding improved to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in region play.


Woodland (6-7, 2-4) hosts East Paulding Thursday at 5:55pm
