Walker captures PGA Championship; Henley rallies for tie for 22nd

Texas native Jimmy Walker became the fourth different first-time major champion Sunday evening by holding off a late charge from Jason Day to win the 98th playing of the PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.

Walker shot 65-66-68-67, 14-under par, for the victory.

Cartersville Country Club’s Scott Hamilton Golf Academy had three current players to make the cut at golf’s final major of the year. The top SHGA player in the field was Russell Henley who shot a pair of 68s over the final 36 holes to tie for 22nd at 4-under par. Aaron Baddeley shot a final round 68 to tie for 49th and Harris English slipped to a tie for 60th with a 74-71 finish.

Former SHGA player, Kevin Kisner, shot 65-70 over the final 36 holes to tie for 18th.

Chris Kirk, another current Hamilton Golf Academy player, along with Acworth’s Jason Bohn — a former SHGA player — missed the cut.

With his PGA Championship victory, Walker earned $1.8 million and 600 FedExCup points.
