Cartersville Little League 10U routs Northern in state tourney opener
The Cartersville Little League 10U baseball all-stars opened the Georgia State Little League 8-10 Tournament in Marietta Saturday with an impressive 18-6 victory over Northern (Columbus) Little League Blue. The 8-10 age group state tournament is being hosted by East Marietta Little League.
Northern Blue scored four runs in the top of the first, but Cartersville responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game, 4-4.
After Northern added another run in the top of the second to regain the lead, 5-4, Cartersville rallied for five runs in the second inning and nine more runs in the third inning to end the game in only four innings by mercy, run-rule.
Connor Brasfield had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and five RBI to lead the Cartersville offensive charge. Ayden Ray also finished with five RBI with four coming on a grand slam home run in the third inning. Hayden James finished with three hits that included a double and one RBI.
Caleb Daniel, Miles Owen, Gavin Shrewsbury, and Joseph Womack added one hit each for Cartersville.
James, Daniel, Owen, Shrewsbury, and Brasfield combined to score 15 of Cartersville’s 18 runs.
Cartersville used three pitchers in the victory.
Owen (2.2 IP, 5ER, 7H, 3BB, 2K), Womack (0.0 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB), and Daniel (1.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 0BB) each took the mound for Cartersville.
Cartersville plays its next game in the double-elimination tournament on Monday at 8pm. They will face the winner of Sunday’s game between Belvedere Little League and Oconee County Little League. Belvedere, winner of District 3, received an opening round bye. District 10 winner, Oconee County, defeated Habersham County 9-1 on Saturday.
The 8-10 Georgia State Little League Championship continues through Saturday, July 16 at East Marietta Little League.

Cartersville Little League 11U team falls in state tourney opener The Cartersville Little League 10-11 year old all-star team fell 5-0 to Northern Little League of Columbus in their State Tournament opener Saturday at Sally Little League in Columbus. Northern scored two runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead and added a single run in the sixth inning for the 5-0 final score. Cartersville matched Northern with six hits, but Northern pitching and defense kept the locals off the scoreboard. Trip Bradley led Cartersville with two hits. Drake Carver, Harrison Childers, Thomas Norris, and Kace Adams added one hit each for Cartersville. Cartersville utilized three pitchers in the loss. Tyler Shelton (1.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 5BB, 3K), Childers (3 IP, 4ER, 5H, 1BB, 2K), and Carver (1.1 IP, 0ER, 1H, 0BB) each took the mound. With the loss, Cartersville slips to the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will play an elimination game Sunday at 1pm against Smyrna.
