Canes' soccer edged on PKs in opening round
The Cartersville boys soccer team fell to Grady Tuesday evening in the opening round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.
The 1-1 game through regulation and overtime went all the way to PKs where Grady won 4-3.
Grady scored its goal in regulation with approximately 17 minutes remaining on a penalty kick, but the Canes answered with a tying goal with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Cartersville’s Pedro Robledo converted on a penalty kick to tie the game after Houston Reed was taken down in the penalty box.
The game came down to a final PK by Grady.
Reed, Osbaldo Senderos, and Cesar Abeja made PKs for Cartersville, but Grady converted on four of five shots, including their final attempt, for the victory.
Grady advances to the second round where they will play at Region 2AAAA champ, Veterans.
The Canes’ season concludes with a 12-5-1 mark.
The Lady Canes host Grady Wednesday night in their opening round game.
