Wildcats close season with road win and series sweep

The Woodland baseball team won a back-and-forth battle Thursday night at North Springs, 10-8.
With the victory, the Wildcats completed a three-game sweep in the cross-region series with the Spartans to wrap up their 2016 campaign.
North Springs had a 1-0 lead after one inning and led 6-5 after six innings as the lead went back-and-forth.
Woodland held a 3-2 lead after two innings, expanded it to 4-2 in the fourth, and led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Spartans scored three times in the sixth to lead, but Woodland responded with five runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 10-6.
North Springs threatened with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Tommy Peed (1.1 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB, 3K) and Garrett Pope held off the rally for the two-run win. Pope struck out the only batter he faced.
Cauy Williams pitched the first 5 and 1/3 innings for the Wildcats with no decision. He allowed five earned runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out five.
Brandon Allen (triple, double, 3RBI) and Grant Robinson (2 RBI) led Woodland with three hits each. Hunter Reaid (2 RBI), Garett Cornett, Mitchell Taylor, Trent Harrison, and Jacob Frye added one hit each. Kolby Stansel contributed one RBI.
North Springs finished the year with a 6-20 mark. Woodland finished its season with an 8-17 record.
