Red Bud MS captures BGMSAA baseball title

Red Bud Middle School won the 2016 Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association championship Thursday night with an 11-2 win over Calhoun.

Calhoun was the top seed from the regular season going into the single-elimination playoff tournament and Red Bud was the tournament’s No. 2 seed.

The Phoenix took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Calhoun scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to narrow the margin to one run. Red Bud responded with three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to pull away.

The Red Bud Phoenix roster includes: Cole Godfrey, Ben Stewart, Micah Vincent, Garrison Mullins, Jacob Cornette, Cole Gray, Wyatt Castoe, Colton Richards, Zakk Ferguson, Tre Williams, Tyler Capps, Colby Hall, Trent Walker, and Logan Mulkey.

Red Bud finished the season with a 13-2 mark. Calhoun concluded the season, 14-1.
