Hurricanes blow past Raiders; Woodland falls to Dalton


The Canes sent 19 men to the plate and scored 13 runs in the top of the seventh to complete a 20-0 blowout win over Southeast Whitfield Tuesday night at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson. Cartersville’s combination of five different pitchers was just as impressive. The Canes’ hurlers — Jacob Fowler, Spencer Dickey, Zach Yancey, Carrington Evans, and Harrison Osborn — combined to scatter three hits, struck out six, and walked only two. Fowler was credited with the pitching victory. Evans doubled and tripled in a four-hit performance at the top of the Canes’ lineup. He scored three times and drove in three runs.


Devin Warner finished with six RBI on a pair of hits that included a triple. He also scored one run. Elliott Anderson had three hits and coaxed a pair of walks. He scored three runs and had three RBI. Noah Daniel had two hits including a double with one RBI. Hunter James (RBI), Austin Lunde (2 RBI), Ryan Lewis (RBI), Brady Head (RBI), Cole Jamieson, Trevor Lowe, Yancey (RBI), and Dickey all added hits. Parker Tidwell drew four walks and had one RBI.


The loss dropped the Raiders to 7-16 overall and 1-9 in Region 7-AAAA)


Cartersville (13-8, 9-1) hosts Pickens Wednesday in another region matchup at Richard Bell Field.




DALTON 12, WOODLAND 6


Woodland baseball lost to visiting Dalton Tuesday, 12-6, in the first game of their three-game, sub-region series this week.


Dalton pounded out 17 hits and led wire-to-wire to maintain their current one game lead in the Sub-Region 7-AAAAA-A standings over Sequoyah.


The Catamounts held a 3-1 lead heading to the top of the fourth when their offense struck for seven runs to open up a commanding lead.


Woodland scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to narrow their deficit to 10-6, but got no closer.


Cade Gabriel, Sam Stepp, Harrison Norman combined for eight hits and nine RBI to lead the Catamounts offense. Vinny Vega homered for Dalton, while Maddux Houghton, J.P. Tighe, and Thomas Wright had two hits apiece.


Cole Shelton tossed a complete game for the Catamounts’ pitching victory. He allowed four earned runs on six hits and no walks. He struck out eight.


Grant Robinson went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored three runs for Woodland. Trent Harrison drove in a run with a triple and Brandon Allen homered. Noah Ludy added a hit for the Wildcats. Hunter Reaid had one RBI.


Mitchell Taylor (3 IP, 6R, 3ER, 8H, 2BB, 2K) was saddled with the pitching loss. Garett Pope (4 IP, 6R, 2ER, 9H, 0BB, 5K) also pitched for the Wildcats.


Dalton (17-4, 13-3) will host Woodland (5-15, 4-12) Wednesday at 5:55pm. The two teams play the third game of the series Friday at Woodland, also at 5:55pm.
