Cass boys tennis team advances to Class 5A state tourney

The Cass boys tennis team defeated North Springs 3-2 Tuesday afternoon to win the Colonels’ Region 7-AAAAA tournament quarterfinal match and guarantee themselves a spot in the GHSA Class 5A state tournament.

The 7-AAAAA tournament is being held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta.

Avery Cornett won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Dalton Jackson was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles for the Colonels. Jacob McBrayer and Seth Colston won at No. 1 doubles in a three set match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to secure the victory.

Cass lost to River Ridge, 4-1, in the region semifinals Tuesday evening and will now play Riverwood in a match for the region's third-seed in the state playoffs Wednesday at Fair Oaks Tennis Center at 11am.
