Woodland completes series sweep of Cass

Woodland continued its domination of Cass in this week’s baseball sub-region series by completing a three-game sweep of the Colonels Wednesday night, 7-1, on the Cats’ home diamond.

The Wildcats put four runs on the board in the second inning and added two more in the third to take a commanding 6-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Woodland starting pitcher, Rodolpho Romo, kept the Colonels off the scoreboard except for a single run in the top of the fifth that made the score 6-1.

Romo (6.1 IP, 1ER, 6H, 3BB, 3K) earned the pitching victory with his performance. Grant Robinson (0.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) finished the seventh inning on the mound.

Mitchell Taylor had a pair of hits and three RBI for the Wildcats. Brandon Allen also had two hits including a triple that launched Woodland’s second inning rally. Jacob Frye, Kolby Stansell, and Garrett Cornett had the other hits for the Wildcats.

Frye stole two bases. Cauy Williams, Hunter Reaid, and Taylor also swiped bags as the Woodland offense took advantage of eight walks by Cass pitchers.

Bailey Campbell, Steven Spell, Jake Collum, Cody Johnson, Tyler Hendon, and Evan Hinton had one hit each for the Colonels.

Collum (3.1 IP, 6ER, 7H, 4BB, 1K) was the losing pitcher. Jordan Reed (2.2 IP, 1ER, 0H, 4BB, 4K) also worked from the mound for Cass.
