Canes blanked by Phenix City Central


Noah Wilkes tossed six innings of shutout ball to lead the visiting Phenix City (AL) Red Devils past Cartersville Wednesday, 9-0.


Jevonte Williams and Wilkes combined for four hits and four RBI to lead Phenix City. Dayton Edmonds relieved Wilkes and needed only seven pitches to close out the seventh inning for the Red Devils.


Mason Barnett (1.1 IP, 3R, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K) took the pitching loss for the Canes. Spencer Dickey (1.2 IP, 0, 1H, 0BB, 2K), Carrington Evans (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB), Harrison Osborn (1 IP, 2R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB), Parker Tidwell (1 IP, 2R, 0ER, 1H, 1BB), and Ian Inaba (1 IP, 2ER, 3H, 1K) also pitched for Cartersville.


The Red Devils (16-11) scored three runs in the top of the second to take an early lead, then added two runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.


Only three of the Phenix City runs were earned. The Canes committed five errors.


Cartersville managed only three hits in the contest. Elliott Anderson, Devin Warner, and Evans had one hit apiece.


The Canes (10-8, 6-1 in 7-AAAA) entertain Gilmer Thursday at 5:55pm at Richard Bell Field in Atco before traveling to Northwest Whitfield Friday for another 5:55pm start.
