Lady Cats blank Cartersville
The Woodland girls soccer team won a tight defensive battle Friday night at home, defeating the visiting Lady Canes of Cartersville 2-0 in a non-region match.
The Lady Cats scored both goals in the first half on a night they celebrated their senior players.
Woodland's initial goal came off a throw in by senior Keri Cagle to Allie Moates who made a nice reception and scored. The second goal occurred just before halftime. Lindsay Scifers scored off a corner kick from Cagle.
The second half was dominated by the two defenses and although both teams had chances, neither found the net. Woodland senior Sam Simmons earned the shutout win in goal.
The loss was Cartersville's third straight. The Lady Canes slip to 10-4 on the season and have road matches after a week off for spring break at Carrollton (April 12) and Villa Rica (April 15).
