ABB update: Locals in college track and field and tennis


This week's update of local athletes competing in track and field and tennis at the collegiate level.


Former Woodland pole vaulter, Samantha Patterson (photo), won the Emory Classic in Atlanta March 25-26 to highlight this week's entries. Bartow Sports Zone periodically updates results for athletes from Bartow County contributing to collegiate athletic programs across the nation. NOTE: Baseball and softball ran in separate features this past week.

TRACK AND FIELD


SPENCER FIELDS — Rhodes College (Fr., Kingston, GA, Darlington HS) . . . teamed with senior Connor Fagan, freshman Adam Hearn, and Matt Dsida at the Raleigh Relays to run a 8:09.97 in the 4x800 while the same team ran the 4x1500 with a time of 16:43.31. The Lynx return to the track April 1 in St. Louis at the WashU Invite.


TROY HICKOM — Clayton State University (Jr., Cartersville HS) . . . placed 18th (4:13.64) of 46 competitors in the 1500 meter run at the Shorter Invitational at Barron Stadium in Rome March 26. The next meet for the Lakers is the Berry College Field Day Invitational April 9.

ANNA HIGHTOWER — Georgia Tech (Fr., Cartersville HS) . . . pole vaulter, placed 11th (11-03.75 / 3.45m) at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Georgia Tech March 25-26. The Jackets travel to Gainesville, FL for the Florida Relays


JAISON MORNING — Valdosta State University (Fr., Cass HS) … Finished 15th (4:11.35) of 46 runners in the 1500 meter run March 26 during the Shorter Invitational at Barron Stadium in Rome.


BLAKE PERRY — Jacksonville State (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . finished second in the 100m hurdles (15.32) at the Emory Classic March 25-26 in Atlanta. The Gamecocks compete next at the Troy University Invitational April 2. SAMANTHA PATTERSON — Jacksonville State (Soph, Woodland HS) … won the women’s pole vault at the Emory Classic in Atlanta March 25-26 with a vault of 11-03.75/3.45m. The Gamecocks compete next at the Troy University Invitational April 2.



TENNIS


PEYTON GOLHOFFER — Ball State (Fr., Laurel Springs Academy, Cartersville resident) . . . Gollhofer, a true freshman, won her singles match on the No. 1 line to help the Cardinals to a 4-3 win over Western Michigan March 25 as both teams opened play in the Mid-America Conference. She also teamed with Audrey Berger to win on the No. 2 doubles line against WMU. On March 27, Golhoffer partnered with Berger again to win on the No. 3 doubles line in a 5-2 home, conference win over Northern Illinois. Ball State (15-2, 2-0 MAC) has won 12 matches in a row and entertains Miami (OH) April 1 before traveling to Eastern Michigan April 3 in another pair of Mid-America Conference tilts.
