Canes top Heritage; Cass edged by a goal; Woodland, Adairsville blanked
CARTERSVILLE 6, HERITAGE-CATOOSA 2
The Cartersville boys’ soccer team won a key Region 7-AAAA match Tuesday night in Ringgold, defeating Heritage-Catoosa, 6-2.
The Canes went on top in the 22nd minutes after an own-goal off the Generals’ keeper. Cartersville added another first half goal in the 25th minute when Houston Read scored off an assist from Blake Cheek.
In the second half, Pedro Robledo put the Canes up 3-0 on a penalty kick in the 51st minute.
One minute later, Grant Farmer scored off another assist from Blake Cheek for a 4-0 advantage.
Gabe Gridley scored in the 57th minute from Pedro Robledo and Victor Guevara scored the Canes’ final goal off an assist from Cesar Abeja in the 72nd minute.
Cartersville (9-3, 5-2 Region 7-AAAA) hosts Marietta Thursday (March 31) and plays at Woodland Friday (April 1) in non-region matches.
CREEKVIEW 4, WOODLAND 0
The visiting Grizzlies scored two goals in each half, including two in the game’s 13th minute to defeat the Wildcats.
Creekview improved to 7-4-2 on the season and 4-2 in sub-region 7-AAAAA-A.
Woodland (0-10, 0-6) hosts Cartersville Friday.
GORDON CENTRAL 5, ADAIRSVILLE 0
After battling through a scoreless first half, the Tigers fell at Gordon Central Tuesday night, 5-0.
The Warriors scored two goals early in the second half to take an advantage Adairsville could not overcome.
Adairsville (5-5, 2-4 in 6-AAA) plays at North Murray Thursday (March 31).
RIVER RIDGE 4, CASS 3
The Colonels lost their fourth straight - all sub-region matches - at River Ridge Tuesday night, 4-3. The Knights improved to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in sub-region 7-AAAAA-A with the victory. Cass (5-6-1, 1-5 in 7-AAAAA-A) has a non-region match at Hiram Thursday.
