Mowry's extra time goal lifts Lady Canes
Cartersville’s Marissa Mowry scored in extra time to give the soccer Lady Canes a 2-1 win a Northwest Whitfield Friday night.
The win moved Cartersville within one win of clinching the Region 7-AAAA title with Heritage-Catoosa remaining on the region slate next Tuesday (March 29).
Courtney Rhea scored in the first half for the Lady Canes to take a 1-0 lead to the intermission, but the Lady Bruins scored early in the second half to tie the match 1-1.
The game remained tied until Mowry’s goal in the first minute of extra time.
Abby Robinson picked up the win in goal.
Cartersville (10-1 overall, 6-0 in 7-AAAA) has won nine in a row and plays at Heritage-Catoosa Tuesday at 5:30pm. The Lady Canes then have non-region matches at Marietta and at Woodland on Thursday and Friday.
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 2, CANES 0
The Cartersville boys soccer team lost a region match at Northwest Whitfield Friday night, 2-0, to the unbeaten Bruins.
Northwest Whitfield, the leaders in the region, improved to 12-0-1 on the season and 6-0 in Region 7-AAAA matches.
Cartersville (8-3, 4-2) plays a final region match at Heritage-Catoosa Tuesday (March 29) and has non-region matches at home Thursday (March 31) against Marietta and at Woodland on Friday (April 1).
