Errors costly as Canes fall at Pickens

Pickens rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh Friday night to win in come-from-behind fashion over the visiting Cartersville Purple Hurricanes, 3-2.

Three errors, a bunt single, two walks, and two wild pitches led to the Dragons’ three runs in the seventh. In all, the Canes committed seven errors on the evening.

Cartersville scored twice in the top of the first for a lead they took to the final inning despite not getting another hit in the game.

Elliott Anderson singled with one out to get the Canes started in the first inning. Devin Warner followed with a double, moving Anderson’s courtesy runner, Seth Smith, to third. Smith scored on a single by Carrington Evans and Warner crossed the plate after a passed ball to give Cartersville a 2-0 lead.

Travis Huffman (7 IP, 2R, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 10K) picked up the complete game pitching win for the Dragons. Pickens improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in Region 7-AAAA with the victory.

Anderson (6.1 IP, 3R, 0ER, 3H, 4BB, 6K) suffered the pitching loss. Mason Barnett entered to pitch in the seventh and walked two without recording an out.

Cartersville (6-7 overall, 2-1 in Region 7-AAAA) will host Ridgeland at Richard Bell Field Tuesday (March 29) at 5:55pm. Southeast Whitfield visits Cartersville Thursday (March 31), and the Canes travel to Heritage-Catoosa on Friday (April 1).
