Excel shutout by Pinecrest

Visiting Pinecrest Academy pounded out 19 hits to defeat Excel Christian Academy 12-0 in six innings Tuesday night at LakePoint in Emerson.

Ben Gobbel, Will Patota, Matt Walters, and Matt Howell combined for 10 hits and five RBI to lead the Paladins.

Pinecrest Academy (3-9 overall, 3-5 in Region 6-A) scored seven runs in the top of the second on eight hits and an Eagles’ infield error to take control of the game.

Paladins’ starting pitcher Jake Mangan scattered three hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings to earn the win on the mound. Ryan McCarthy closed out the game for Pinecrest Academy with a scoreless sixth.

Marco Haro singled in the second and fourth innings for the Eagles. Blaine Belisario had the only other Excel hit, a second inning single.

Eagles’ starting pitcher, Joseph Cuomo, suffered the pitching loss. Levi Blackwell and Wyatt Karlovich worked in relief for ECA.

Excel (1-10, 0-10) entertains Mount Pisgah Christian Thursday at LakePoint in Emerson.
