Colonels even series with Rome; Canes and Cats fall
The Cass Colonels scored six runs in the third inning to take control of the middle game of a three-game series this week with Rome. The Colonels added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings on their way to an 8-2 sub-region 7-AAAAA-A victory. Rome won the first game of the series Monday night, setting up a rubber game in the series Friday at Legion Field in Rome (5:55pm).
Cody Johnson had an RBI double and an RBI single in the third inning rally. Baley Campbell, Boo Reed, Steven Spell, and Casey Patterson all had RBI singles.
Johnson finished the night with three hits and three RBI. Patterson had two RBI on a pair of hits, and Spell had three hits and one RBI. Reed had two hits and one RBI.
Parker Hyde and Ja’kolbi Griffin had two hits each for Rome (7-3 overall, 3-2 in 7-AAAAA-A).
Evan Hinton (6 IP, 2ER, 7H, 0BB, 5K) put in an excellent performance on the mound for the Colonels to earn the win. Reed (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 2K) pitched the seventh.
Cass (4-6 overall, 3-2 in sub-region 7-AAAAA-A) makes the trip to Rome Friday for a 5:55pm start.
COLLINS HILL 9, CARTERSVILLE 1
Collins Hill struck for six runs in the first two innings Wednesday night on their way to a 9-1 victory over visiting Cartersville in Suwanee.
The Canes actually led 1-0 after one-half inning, scoring on a hit, a walk, and an error.
Noah Daniel singled to open the game and moved to third on a passed ball and a groundout. After Cole Jamieson walked, Zach Yancey reached on an error at third base that allowed Daniel to score. Cartersville reloaded the bases with another walk, but could do no more damage.
Three Collins Hill pitchers combined to scatter six Canes hits and allow no more runs.
Parker Tidwell (double), J.P. Martin, Parker Roberson, Daniel, Jamieson, and Yancey (double) had the Hurricanes’ hits.
Elliott Anderson (2 IP, 6R, 5ER, 6H, 2BB) started for the Canes and suffered the pitching loss. Mason Barnett (3 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 3K) and Harrison Osborn (1 IP, 3ER, 3H, 2BB) also took the mound for Cartersville.
Caleb Watson and Nasim Nunez led the Eagles’ offense with two hits and two RBI each.
The Canes (4-5) travel to Mill Creek Thursday for a 5:30pm start and begin Region 7-AAAA play next Tuesday (March 22) at Gilmer in a 5:30pm start.
SEQUOYAH 4, WOODLAND 3
A tight game was decided in the seventh inning when the visiting Chiefs scored twice for a 4-3 win.
Sequoyah took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Wildcats scored a run in the third and two more in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.
JacobFrye doubled and HunterReaid drove him home with a single to right field for Woodland’s third inning run. In the sixth, Grant Robinson singled to left field and Emanuel Jones was entered as a runner. Brandon Allen walked and Cauey Williams grounded out to shortstop, scoring Jones. Noah Ludy doubled to left field driving home Allen to give the Wildcats a 3-2 advantage.
Sequoyah (6-6, 5-3 in 7-AAAAA-A) scored twice in the top of the seventh on a pair of singles, two walks, and an error.
Reaid singled with two outs in the seventh for his third hit of the game, but the Wildcats could do no additional damage.
Woodland (2-9 overall, 1-7 in 7-AAAAA-A) travels to Sequoyah Friday at 5:55pm for Game 3 of the series.
