Weeks helps lead Reinhardt to 21-8 start; local collegiate softball update


Taylor Weeks, a former Adairsville Lady Tigers' standout and junior at Reinhardt University, headlines this week's top performances among local softball athletes competing at the collegiate level across the country. Weeks, who started who collegiate career at University of Pikeville (KY) before transferring to Reinhardt, is now hitting .422 for the season with 20 RBI for the Eagles. Softball update for the week ending March 13

TAYLOR BRASELTON — Reinhardt University (Jr., Woodland HS) . . . had five hits that included a double, five runs scored, and three RBI in a stretch of 10 game appearances March 8-11 at the Myrtle Beach Snowbird Invitational. The Lady Eagles won nine of those games, improving to 21-8. Braselton is hitting .292 for the season in 65 at bats over 18 games played. Reinhardt travels to Milligan College for a doubleheader March 16 and entertains conference foe, Bluefield College, for a doubleheader March 19.

SYDNEY FLOWERS — Reinhardt University (Jr., Woodland HS) . . . an Eagles’ third baseman, appeared in five games March 8-11 scoring one run and drawing a pair of walks. RU won nine of ten last week in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Snowbird Invitational and improved their record to 21-8. Reinhardt hosts conference foe, Bluefield College, for a doubleheader March 19.


LACEY FRITZ — Southeastern Louisiana University (Jr., Woodland HS) . . . had a pinch hitting appearance in a 6-5 loss to Abilene Christian March 13 and remained in the batting order as the designated player for a pair of plate appearances. The Lions (12-12) were swept in their first conference three-game series by Abilene Christian March 12-13. SLU hosts Southeast Missouri State March 16 and travels to San Antonio, TX for a three-game Southland Conference series March 18-19 at University of the Incarnate.


SYDNEY HODORFF — LaGrange College (Fr., Woodland HS) . . . the Panthers’ catcher coaxed a walk in three plate appearances during a 16-9 home loss to Berry College March 9. In nine games and 27 plate appearances, Hordorff has a .350 batting average with two runs scored, a homer, and two RBI. Her on base percentage is .519. LaGrange College (5-6 overall, 1-3 in USA South Athletic Conference) entertains Wesleyan (Ga.) College in a doubleheader March 16 and hosts conference opponents William Peace (NC) University and Meredith (NC) College March 19-20.


HUNTER IRVIN — Reinhardt University (Fr., Cartersville HS) . . . had a pinch hit appearance March 9 in a 5-2 win over Briar Cliff University (IA) and scored a run as a pinch runner March 11 in a 12-0 win over Roosevelt University (IL). Irvin has appeared in nine games with three starts. RU won nine of ten last week in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Snowbird Invitational and improved their record to 21-8. Reinhardt entertains conference foe, Bluefield College, for a doubleheader March 19.


MALLORY JACKSON — Georgia Highlands CC (Fr., Woodland HS) . . . had a hit, scored a run, drove in one, and added a sacrifice March 9 during a doubleheader sweep of Southern Union State (AL) CC. She had two hits and one RBI in a conference doubleheader split March 12 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Jackson has two homeruns and 14 RBI with a .198 batting average in 31 games. The Chargers (14-22 overall, 2-4 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) play at Cleveland State CC March 15 and travel to South Georgia CC March 20 for a GCAA doubleheader.


ASHLEY JORDAN — Georgia Highlands CC (Soph, Woodland HS) . . . the Chargers’ outfielder was 3-for-6 and scored twice in a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Southern Union (AL) CC March 9. She then went 2-for-6 with one RBI and a sacrifice in a conference doubleheader sweep at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College March 12. Jordan has a .333 batting average in 113 plate appearances over 36 games this season. She has 13 RBI, scored 15 runs, and has eight stolen bases. The Chargers (14-22 overall, 2-4 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) play at Cleveland State CC March 15 and travel to South Georgia CC March 20 for a GCAA doubleheader.


KAILAH RAIN — Embry-Riddle University (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . was 3-for-6, scored a run, and stole a base in a home doubleheader sweep of American International University March 8. Rain has a .333 batting average in 69 at bats through 23 games. She has five RBI and eight stolen bases on the season. Embry-Riddle (20-8 overall, 5-7 in the Sunshine State Conference) travels to Palm Beach Atlantic University for a three-game conference series March 18-19.


TAYLOR WEEKS — Reinhardt University (Jr., Adairsville HS) . . . has a .422 batting average through 29 games and 90 at bats. She has four extra base hits and 20 RBI. Weeks has an on base percentage of .485 and has three stolen bases. During a 10-game stretch March 8-11, she was 18-for 32 at the plate with nine RBI and 10 runs scored. RU won nine of the ten games including a conference doubleheader sweep and seven of eight in the Myrtle Beach Snowbird Invitational. The Eagles (21-8, 2-0) host conference opponent, Bluefield College, in a doubleheader March 19.


RANDI WIMPY — Reinhardt University (Sr., Woodland HS) . . . the 2015 NAIA All-American has a .421 batting average through 29 games and 95 at bats. She leads the Eagles with six homeruns and 31 RBI. She has 19 extra base hits and a .768 slugging percentage while her on base percentage is .509. Wimpy also leads her team with five stolen bases. During a 10-game stretch March 8-11, she was 11-for 38 at the plate with four RBI and eight runs scored. RU won nine of the ten games including a conference doubleheader sweep and seven of eight in the Myrtle Beach Snowbird Invitational. The Eagles (21-8, 2-0) host conference opponent, Bluefield College, in a doubleheader March 19.


LAUREN WOMACK — Georgia Highlands CC (Fr., Cass HS) . . . scored two runs with a walk and a sacrifice in a doubleheader sweep of Southern Union State CC March 9. Had a hit, a sacrifice, and scored two runs in a GCAA conference doubleheader split with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College March 12. Womack has a .268 batting average with seven RBI and seven stolen bases through 36 games. The Chargers are 14-22 and 2-4 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. GHC plays at Cleveland State CC (TN) March 15 and at South Georgia CC in a conference doubleheader March 20.
