Lady Colonels shut out visiting Pickens; Lady Cats edged by River Ridge

The Cass Lady Colonels’ soccer team shutout Pickens County 4-0 Tuesday night in a home, non-region match at Doug Cochran Stadium.

Stephanie Robledo gave Cass a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, scoring off an assist from Hannah Johnson. Logan Vermaas found the back of the net for the Lady Colonels in the 32nd minute, following another Johnson helper. Kelsey Rivera put Cass up 3-0 in the 37th minute off an assist from Robledo, and Rivera added a second goal for the night in the 44th minute off a pass from Vermaas.

The Lady Colonels (3-6-1) entertain region rival Creekview Friday (March 18). Kickoff is set for 6pm.

RIVER RIDGE 3, WOODLAND LADY CATS 2

The Woodland Lady Cats lost a region match at home Tuesday to River Ridge, 3-2.

Although both teams had scoring opportunities in the first half, neither took advantage until the 34th minute when the visiting Lady Knights picked up the game’s first goal and took a 1-0 lead to the intermission.

Woodland missed a penalty kick early in the second half and then River Ridge took advantage of a mishandled ball in front of the Lady Cats’ net. The mistake led to a Knights’ goal in the 52nd minute and allowed River Ridge to take a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Knights extended their lead to 3-0 just 30 second later, but Woodland responded well the rest of the way only to come up a goal short.

Keri Cagle scored in the 71st minute on a breakaway and Ally Moates found the net in the 79th minute to narrow the margin to 3-2, but that is as close as the Lady Cats would come.

River Ridge (5-4 overall, 2-1 in 7-AAAAA-A) was able to withstand the rally down the stretch and ran out the clock for a one goal victory.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in sub-region 7-AAAAA-A.

Woodland hosts Sequoyah Friday (March 18) in a 5:30pm kickoff.
