Errors costly as Excel Christian loses to St. Francis
Excel and St. Francis remained scoreless through the first three innings Tuesday night, but the visiting Knights’ offense produced multiple runs in each of the last four frames for an 11-1 win over the Eagles at LakePoint in Emerson.
The youthful Excel club contributed to its own demise, however, committing seven errors that accounted for seven unearned runs in the contest.
St. Francis (8-4 overall, 5-2 Region 6-A) scored four runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and added three more in the top of the seventh.
ECA scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth when Darius Thrower grounded out to drive in Wyatt Karlovich who had singled to open the inning. Marco Haro also had a hit in the inning and Levi Blackwell reached after getting hit by a pitch.
Joseph Cuomo, Thrower, and Karlovich finished with two hits each for the Eagles.
Blackwell (5 IP, 6R, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) was charged with the pitching loss. Haro (2 IP, 5R, 1ER, 5H, 0BB, 1K) finished the game in relief.
Matthew Fezza (5 IP, 1ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) picked up the pitching win for the Knights. Ryan Field had two hits and one RBI. Clark Adams drove in two runs with one hit for St. Francis.
Excel Christian Academy (1-7, 0-7) has home games with Fellowship Christian Thursday (March 17, 5:30pm) and King’s Ridge Christian Monday (March 21, 5:30pm).
