Wildcats edged by Rome, 2-1


Rome starting pitcher, Braden Hyde, allowed only two hits in 6 and 1/3 innings Friday night as the visiting Wolves edged Woodland 2-1.


With the win, Rome won two of three games in the sub-region 7-AAAAA-A series.


Dylan Beasley recorded the final two outs for Rome in the seventh, both with strikeouts.


The Wolves scored single runs in the first inning and sixth inning. Woodland’s run came in the fifth inning.




Trailing 1-0, Woodland tied the score in the bottom of the fifth. Grant Robinson singled with one out and scored on an infield error by Rome.


The Wildcats were unable to take advantage of a solid pitching performance by Mitchell Taylor (5.1 IP, 8H, 2ER, 1BB, 5K). Grayson Bagwell (1.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 4K) also pitched well in relief.


Rome is 6-2 overall and 2-1 in Sub-Region 7-AAAAA-A. Woodland is now 2-7 overall and 1-5 in Sub-Region 7-AAAAA-A.


Woodland (2-7 overall, 1-5 Sub-Region 7-AAAAA-A) has a three-game sub-region series against Sequoyah next week that begins Monday (Mar. 14, 5:55pm) in Hickory Flat.
