Wildcats even series with Rome; Colonels shutout by North Oconee

WOODLAND 5, ROME 2
Garett Pope and Grayson Bagwell combined for a three-hitter to pave the way for a Woodland 5-2 sub-region win at Rome Wednesday night. The Wildcats scored three runs in the first two innings and added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh after the Wolves had narrowed the lead to 3-1.
Four of Woodland’s nine hits went for extra bases.
Jacob Frye led the Wildcats’ attack with a 3-for-4 night. He scored twice and drove in a run on a triple and a pair of singles. Hunter Reaid, Brandon Allen (triple), and Mitchell Taylor each finished with a hit and one RBI. Grant Robinson and Trent Harrison both smacked doubles.
Pope (5.1 IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 2K) picked up the pitching victory for Woodland. Bagwell (1.2 IP, 2H, 1ER, 3BB, 1K) earned a save.
Woodland (2-6 overall, 1-4 in 7-AAAAA-A) entertains Rome (5-2, 1-1) Friday in the rubber game of the sub-region series at 6pm.

NORTH OCONEE 4, CASS 0
The Cass bats were stymied again Wednesday night at LakePoint Park in Emerson as the Colonels lost a non-region game to North Oconee, 4-0.
Cass managed only two hits in the contest, one night after going hitless against Griffin.
North Oconee (3-5) scored a pair of runs in the second and added single runs in the fourth and fifth. The Titans pounded out 11 hits.
North Oconee sophomore southpaw, Brad Stephenson, allowed only two hits and three walks in 6-2/3 innings. He struck out five. Josh Farmer recorded the final out for the Titans in the seventh inning. Evan Hinton (6 IP, 11H, 4R, 2ER, 1BB, 5K) suffered the complete game pitching loss for the Colonels.
Cody Johnson singled in the third inning and Nathan Smith doubled in the seventh inning for the only Cass hits.
Cass (3-4) plays a three-game, sub-region series with Rome next week. Monday and Friday the games are at Legion Field in Rome. Wednesday’s game will be at Cass. All three start times are 5:55pm.
